At Hydro Leisure we believe luxury should be for everyone, we strive to ensure our products and services aim to be as environmentally conscious and cost efficient as possible for both the benefit of our customers and the planet. To achieve this, we have introduced a series of measures to maximise the enjoyment of our customers without the worry of the costs fiscally or environmentally.
Hire vs Buy
Firstly, you maybe be questioning to yourself. Why should I hire when I can buy?
You could buy, however there are several factors why it’s better for you and the environment to hire instead.
From an ecological perspective, chlorine, when it is not administered or disposed of properly, poses a significant environmental hazard leading to flora, fauna, water contamination and even forming carcinogens according to the Journal of Environmental Science and Pollution Research. At Hydro Leisure, our staff receive the necessary training from BISHTA (the British and Irish Spa and Hot Tubs Association) on water hygiene management and standards, ensuring your hire experience is a safe possible. Additionally, our staff can calculate based on the size of the hot tub and length of hire how much chlorine is necessary for the duration of the rental to ensure, when the water is appropriately disposed of, it does not pose a threat to the natural environment.
Many people who purchased hot tubs, particularly over the covid-19 lockdowns, found it difficult due to the complexity, cost and time required to maintain their water quality for long periods of time. Since 2022 there has also been a global chlorine shortage which has significantly increased the cost of purchasing chlorine. Here, the full costs of chemical treatment are included in the hire price, and we manage all the complexities of appropriately dosing your hot tub, removing the stress and leaving only the spa luxury.
So, in summary, it’s better for you, the environment and your bank account to hire rather than buy.
Insulation
The average UK electricity bill, according to the UK Government website, has increased from £450 as of 2010 to £769 as of 2021, with an increase of an additional 4% In January 2024. Energy costs are of course a concern of our customers upon hiring a hot tub and in order to address this issue and to help keep your energy bills as unimpacted as possible we follow leading scientific data from California State University. Who in 2018 investigated how to maximise heat efficiency of portable spa products, such as hot tubs and pools.
Their findings indicated most hot tub products tend to have a thermal energy loss value of 329.3 W/hr with an average power consumption of 326.3 W/hr. Ideally for a product to be energy efficient the loss and consumption value should be equal. From their data it was determined, the greatest sources of energy loss occur through the floor and top of the hot tub as well as through the initial heating phase. To combat this, we provide additional insulation through a dual layer cover, providing double the insulation to the top of the hot tub to reduce thermal exchange with the air and to reduce heat exchange with the ground, we install all our hired hot tubs with a layer of insulating padding. Additionally, to reduce the energy cost of the initial heating phase we have recently introduced a new ‘hot water fill system’ to provide pre-heated water directly into your hot tub, increasing your usable hire time and drastically reducing energy consumption.
Products
New technologies are being produced in the spa and leisure sector and at Hydro Leisure Group we aim to be at the forefront of these emerging technologies to bring the newest and the most energy efficient products to our customers.
Thermacore is one such technology which is the latest addition to the sector and to the Hydro Hot Tub range. Unlike the inflatable hot tubs predominantly found for purchase in major retailers which are designed for warmer climates, Thermacore technology is designed for the Northern European market to retain thermal energy even during freezing temperatures. This range is constructed from compounded insulating foam panels in combination with aluminium liners to retain and reflect energy back into the hot tub to increase energy efficiency of upwards of 40% when compared with inflatable competitors.
As a hire company, Hydro Leisure Group believes this technology can bring cost effective luxury to our customers and as such we will continue to update our range to provide the most efficient and latest in leisure and spa development. Look for the Toronto AirJet Plus, Osaka and Swift Octagonal in our collection to try this technology for yourself.
Environmental Consciousness
Hydro Leisure actively aims to be the most environmentally friendly leisure company on the market, for that reason we have chosen Kystal a B-Corp certified company as our choice of web hosting platformer. Infrastructure for the internet globally produces 416.2TWh per year of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. To address this Krystal uses only 100% renewable energy from sun, wind and sea to provide energy to it’s data centres, Krystal also works internationally on various reforestation projects.
We are proud to be hosted by Krystal and we hope to progress our own environmental initiatives to ensure our customers can have a luxurious and climate consciousness spa experience.
